On August 15, India’s petrol diesel prices stayed constant for yet another day. For nearly three months, prices in all Indian states save Maharashtra have remained unchanged. The rates were recently revised on May 22, when the central government announced a reduction in fuel excise charge. To alleviate the impact of rising gasoline prices, the government approved an excise decrease of Rs 8 per litre on petrol and Rs 6 on diesel.
The Maharashtra government has further benefited the state’s end customers by announcing a reduction in the Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel costs. The state’s fuel rates were then decreased by Rs.5, while diesel prices were reduced by Rs.3.
Fuel prices in the national capital Delhi traded at Rs 96.72 per litre of petrol and Rs 89.62 per litre of diesel, according to data available on the Indian Oil Corporation’s website. In Mumbai, the price of petrol was Rs. 106.35 per litre, while diesel was Rs. 94.28 per litre. The price of petrol in Kolkata has stayed constant at Rs. 106.03, while the price of a litre of diesel has risen to Rs. 92.76. Petrol and diesel are priced at Rs. 102.63 and Rs. 94.24 in Chennai, respectively.
