KTM Electric Scooter: Right now, many energizing activities are going on in India. The Ultraviolette F77 is India’s first performance electric motorcycle, and Bajaj’s Chetak has just completed a 3000km journey from Delhi to Pune. KTM appears to want in on the fun as well, as the Austrian company is planning to produce its own electric scooter based on the Chetak.
The Bajaj Chetak (electric scooter) is based on a modular architecture, allowing the two firms (and possibly Husqvarna) to establish their own electric powertrain identities. Bajaj has clarified with Chetak that it aims to cater to the traditional Indian buyer. KTM will function at the high end of the performance spectrum because it is always ‘Ready To Race.’
KTM Electric Scooter: Design
Bajaj’s affordably priced Chetak is designed for developing markets like India, where electric mobility is just getting started. As a result, a 4kW motor and 95km of real-world range appear sufficient for intra-city mobility. The KTM offering will be worldwide in scope. It will be more powerful, have more capacity, and adhere to the Austrian brand’s athletic character.
Even the aesthetic will differ significantly from Chetak’s beautiful Italian-esque look. We do not anticipate a metal body on the KTM scooter, as the weight will be critical in maintaining athletic attributes. KISKA, KTM’s design firm, may also be involved in styling.
Work on the high-performance scooter has already begun, with preliminary tests on a basic version. These scooters will be manufactured in Chakan and shipped to developed markets like Europe, America, and China. Realistically, the KTM electric scooter will not be available for another three years. A prototype version of the scooter could be seen during EICMA 2022, with a production-ready version following a year later.
In a similar spirit, Bajaj will begin selling the Chetak to the rest of the world by the end of 2020. Bajaj intends to sell it in developing and developed areas to expand its business. Here, KTM’s extensive reach will assist the Chakan-based company is spreading its wings.
Price and Launch date
Nothing is officially confirmed, but we can expect the KTM Electric Scooter to be launched on February 2023 as per trustworthy sources. This electric scooter could be priced between Rs 1.30 Lakh – 1.50 lakh.
