Mahindra Scorpio Classic, which Mahindra recently launched, is essentially the SUV from the previous generation of the Scorpio with a minor update. The entry-level diesel trim of the freshly released Scorpio-N is just Rs. 50,000 more expensive than the SUV’s starting price of Rs. 11.99 lakh for the Mahindra Scorpio Classic.
Mahindra Scorpio Classic: Price and Features
There are two variations of the new Mahindra Scorpio Classic: S and S1. The cost of the fully equipped Scorpio Classic S1 is Rs. 15.49 lakh ex-showroom. Compared to the Scorpio N’s top-end model, which generally sells for Rs 24 lakh ex-showroom, and the Scorpio N’s lengthy waits, the Classic may seem attractive to specific buyers.
The Scorpio Classic’s rear wheels are driven by a 6-speed manual gearbox; four-wheel drive is not available at all. That is a step back from the Scorpio of the previous generation and might turn off some customers. Speaking of exterior updates, the updated Scorpio gets new 17-inch alloy wheels, a new front grille with the Mahindra twin-peaks logo, and new daytime running lights and LED tail lights. Also altered are the insides. There is quilted upholstery, wood trim, and a two-tone paint job. A 9 inch touchscreen infotainment system is also added to the Scorpio Classic, adding a contemporary touch.
Why should you buy Mahindra Scorpio Classic?
The Scorpio-N has received over 100,000 bookings and has a waiting period of at least six months to a year, compared to the Mahindra Scorpio Classic, which is readily available with little to no waiting time. If you’re one of the 100,000 people to reserve the SUV within the 30-minute window, that is. The recently released Scorpio Classic is the solution for everybody else who wants a Scorpio with practically no waiting period.
Then there is the considerable price difference between the Scorpio-top N’s trim and the Scorpio Classic’s. Of course, the top-tier Scorpio-N model comes with a lot more equipment in addition to improved significantly on-road comfort and performance. But the Scorpio Classic still makes a lot of sense for those on a tight budget. It is a tough SUV with tried-and-true mechanics, updated appearance, and of course, costs much less.
