Maruti Suzuki Swift S-CNG launched at Rs 7.77 lakh in India, Claims to have better fuel economy

The Maruti Suzuki Swift S-CNG VXI costs Rs 7.77 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), while the ZXI costs Rs 8.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Maruti Suzuki Subscribe offers the CNG-powered hatchback starting at Rs 16,499 a month.

Maruti Suzuki has now introduced CNG variants of its famous Swift hatchback, with prices starting at Rs 7.77 lakh. It is only offered in two trim levels and is the eighth vehicle in Maruti Suzuki’s current lineup to receive the S-CNG treatment. According to the manufacturer, it is currently the most fuel-efficient premium hatchback in the country.

The same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine produces 90hp and 113Nm of torque under the hood. In CNG mode, however, it generates 77hp and 98.5Nm of torque, and Maruti Suzuki claims that the hatchback has a fuel economy of 30.90km/kg. It only has a 5-speed manual transmission.

Maruti Suzuki has modified the engine and transmission to function with CNG fuel, and the vehicle now has interdependent twin Electronic Control Units (ECU) and a reworked injection system. The suspension has also been tweaked to manage the added weight.

This 2021 Swift gets a new chrome stripe on the single-piece front grille, which now features a mesh pattern, as part of the cosmetic upgrades. Another important distinction is a dual-tone exterior colour available with the top ZXi+ trim. There are three dual-tone options: Pearl Arctic White, Solid Fire Red, and Midnight Blue with Pearl Midnight Black roofs. The pre-facelift vehicle retained the projector headlights, LED DRLs, 15-inch precision-cut alloy wheels, and floating roof effect.

The silver ornamentation and a twin-pod instrument cluster with a colourful 4.2-inch TFT display are the most noticeable changes to the cabin. The Swift also gains cruise control, an idle start-stop feature, and key-synchronized auto-foldable ORVMs. It is still equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, a rear parking camera, driver and co-driver seat belt reminders, and ISOFIX anchorage points.
