The BMW X8 is rumored to be the Bavarian automaker’s halo four-door coupe SUV. Given that BMW currently has a feature-rich, ultra-luxurious SUV in the form of the X7, the X8 may be more sporty, sleek, and driver-oriented. The X8 is scheduled to be revealed internationally in 2022 and sold in India shortly after.
BMW X8: Design
The X8 is believed to inherit most of its styling elements from the X7, except the roof line. The prominent grille, thin headlights, and taillights might be retained, but sculpted rear haunches and a flowing roofline meeting a raised boot lid could lend muscle to the design. The X8, like the X6 and X4, is more about aesthetics and dynamics than practicality; the rear seats are not as helpful as the X7 due to the aggressively sloped roofline.
The X8 will borrow the X8’s large grille, narrow headlights, and taillights and pair them with a sloping coupe-like roof shape and a more muscular body design. BMW will replace the X7’s opulent interior furnishings with a more sporty setting that extensively uses carbon fiber inlays and black/darker upholstery.
The X8 will be more suited to a proper M version because it will place less emphasis on size and luxury than the X7.
BMW X8: Engine
The X8 could also provide the perfect platform for a performance-oriented ‘M’ variant, which the X7 has not received as its size and positioning don’t gel well with the sporty nature of M cars. The X8 M could use the same 4.4-liter V8 used under the hood of the recently launched M8 Coupe, with power and torque bumped up from the existing 591bhp/750Nm.
