On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Uttar Pradesh to officially open the 296 km long, four-lane Bundelkhand Expressway. The highway, which cost Rs 14,850 crore to build, will link Chitrakoot to the Lucknow-Agra Expressway close to Etawah.

“Tomorrow, 16th July is a special day for my sisters and brothers of the Bundelkhand region,” PM Modi tweeted on Friday. “At a programme in Jalaun district, the Bundelkhand Expressway will be inaugurated. This project will boost the local economy and connectivity.”

In February 2020, the prime minister officially laid the project’s foundation stone. According to the government, the expressway was finished in a record-breaking 28 months, 8 months ahead of schedule.

The six districts covered by the four-lane expressway — Etawah, Auraiya, Jalaun, Mahoba, Banda, and Hamirpur — as well as its eventual conclusion at Gonda village in the Chitrakoot district of Bundelkhand will be covered by the expressway, which can be expanded to six lanes later.

The expressway is expected to significantly promote regional economic growth. “The project is significant as the government has ambitious plans to boost the economic activity of the Bundelkhand region with this expressway project. In the next step, the government plans to develop industrial hubs along the expressway in Banda and Jalaun districts,” an official said.
